Book #19: The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

The-Picture-of-Dorian-Gray

I really wanted to like this book since I love the concept but ultimately I just couldn’t get into it. I found the relationship between Lord Henry and Dorian confusing. I thought it was clearly a homosexual relationship at first but then the author was careful to never state this or even heavily imply that anything aside from a strangely close friendship between the two, being clear to outline that both had pursued many woman sometimes sleeping with them more than once at a time. I found most of what Lord Henry stated quite offensive and the racist descriptions of some of the characters made my skin crawl. I understand it was just the times but ultimately that in combination with the slow writing style just killed it for me.
